Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep
I really hate that alarm clock.
I am guessing you know where we are going by now thanks to the map….Thats right we woke up in Lima, Peru, the capital of Peru. On our way to one of the New Wonder’s of the World.
7:30 a.m., not much sleep last night, good bed though, I had better take advantage of a good bed while I can, because I will only be in one for a few more days. Although I couldn’t see much of the city last night in the dark, it looks like I expected in the light, sort of a cross between Mexico City and a lot of Eastern European Cities. Today we are going to go out and walk around the city with our friends Judith and Peter. A nice Breakfast then off to some fun.
Not much time to get around today, we leave tomorrow, but are moving to a different hotel tonight. We decided to go out to the Miraflores area of Lima, this would be considered the more expensive area, more tourist type area along the Coast, unfortunately we just don’t have much time today and we are planning to walk everywhere, but we will be back to Lima later. Although it’s Sunday morning the city is a buzz of activity, but with a sunday sort of calm to it. A little Overcast and around 68 degrees, very pleasant. We walked and walked and walked some more down to the Beach. The beach is beautiful, but not like a White Sandy Beach sort of way. In fact the beaches were not so much sand, but stone beaches. If you have never been on a stone beach it is cool, because the waves washing over the stones makes a sound like pebbles in a tumbler, a very unique sound to the rolling waves, sort of intoxicating and meditative.
Ok, we keep walking, we must have walked for miles already and we ended up at Cliff side mall along the coast. And I couldnt believe it but we ran into two of our traveling partners, I don’t know what the odds are of this continuing to happen, but it did. In Peru, the signature cocktail is a Pisco Sour, (see video below on how to make it) so we found the nearest bar and had a few of those, holy cow they are like 43% alcohol. If you have never had one, order one somewhere. Hopefully they will make it correctly by using real egg whites.
It is time to get back to the hotel, pack up and check out. We will be sleeping at a hotel across the street from the Airport tonight, this will allow us to sleep in a little more tomorrow and not have to deal with the horrendous traffic of Lima in the morning. As we split up we decide that everyone will meet at our hotel for Dinner. One of our Travelers, decided to go out to the store and get some wine, which took like forever, we just assumed he was lost in Lima, that would make a good movie title I think. Finally showing up we were on our way to dinner to a highly recommended restaurant in the city, we walked, and walked, and walked and never found it, by my estimates we walked about 5-6 miles today, it’s good prep for what is ahead of us. We found somewhere else to have dinner, nice meal, back to hotel, cab to the airport and off to bed.
