If you have been reading my blog for a while then you know that I have been busy expanding my education in an effort to earn my MBA. My Madrid, Barcelona and Amsterdam graduation certificate. I am proud to announce, I have graduated, with honors I might add. This was my first trip to these cities and I was very excited to make this trip, along with some friends, it was an outstanding trip. These three cities have completely exceeded my expectations, and will most likely be back on my travel list in the future again.
I have had the luxury of traveling to many European cities, however there are so many more yet to see. It feels to good to check these three off my list. You might be wondering why did I choose these 3 cities? My reasoning is simple, I had not been there before. Of course by that reasoning, I should also be flying to the Moon. I have also given consideration to the economics of travel this year, although many people would say don’t go anywhere that the Euro is the countries currency, after all the exchange rate is horrible. But when looking at all the European countries, Spain and Greece are the two that stand out right now because of their economic situation.
Both countries are working very hard to bring in tourism dollars and in doing so there seems to be some good buys available in hotels, airfare and even food when your there. Greece on the other hand, is also going through some significant political turmoil, which has turned somewhat violent at times. Spain on the other hand has been relative safe to travel to, even though they too are experience some political upheaval (I will actually write about this in the future).
Like with anyone who travels, cost is relative to your means, if your a backpacker, then your probably looking to go the most cost efficient way you can, cheapest flight, hostel’s, street food etc. Or Uber Luxury travel, first class flight, Ritz Carlton and fine dinning. Or somewhere in the middle, where I travel. This is the majority of today’s travelers, it is also where you can find the best deals if you dig and take your time doing it. All in all, the travel and hotel costs for this trip were quite good.
In planning this trip we decided that there is some criteria we must adhere to:
European 4 Star hotels, that have excellent locations in their respective cities so that we could walk to most if not all the sights we wanted to see.
The ability to utilize public transportation such as Subway’s, Train’s or Metro Systems.
Comfortable flights, that are competitively priced.
Keep within a budget of $2500, per person for all travel and hotel costs (minus any upgrades we do along the way).
That probably seems like a lot of money, however the actual cost is only $178 dollars a day for all travel and hotel costs. In many cases just a hotel will cost you $200 a day, so all in all I felt this was quite good. With persistence, time and effort it is possible to travel comfortably and affordably.
In the coming days I will be posting more about each individual city on our itinerary and about some of the things we did and saw along the way, I hope you continue to read my stories.
