My name is Scott and I like to travel. There I said it, wow that does feel better. There is probably a program for my affliction somewhere. I am what I would consider a Normal Guy. I am a native Arizonan, sometimes we are called “Zonies”. I am in my mid 40′s and enjoy a great life. I am self employed and have a wonderful daughter and Partner. Although I would say my life is a fairly normal one, I am also quite lucky in that I have the ability to travel and enjoy the world, I enjoy learning about other cultures and experiencing the world around us. I want to be right upfront about the type of travel I enjoy and the type I don’t. You will probably not ever read a story of about me backpacking my way through the serengeti during the height of summer, nor will you probably read any stories of me sleeping in the presidential suite of the Ritz Carlton in Paris. I am not a budget traveler, nor am I an uber luxury traveler, I fall somewhere in the middle, where most people fall I believe. I started this blog for the sole purpose of sharing my stories, my views and my excitement for traveling around this world with my friends, family. However it doesn’t stop there for me, I also wanted to make friends with others around the world, those who travel and those who dream of travel. Blogs and Websites evolve over time, mine will no doubt expand over time as well please come back and see what has taken place. However if you have come to my blog to schedule a flight or a hotel, this is not the place.

Day 2~The Greatest Vacation….so far

Saturday, September 6th

Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep

Not again, oh wait, it’s 8:30, thats not so bad.  The benefits of black out shades in the hotel, whoever came up with that one, it’s a good idea.  Today is not going to be a particularly exciting day, however the good news is that I must have fallen into vacation mode pretty quickly since I slept in until 8:30.  Which is like 4 hours later than normal.  Thats a good sign, I really needed it.

We wake in Miami, but didn’t do anything particularly exciting, just relax and prepare for a long, boring day.  Had some breakfast, packed up and left for the airport.  Our flight is scheduled for early evening, 5:15, but was naturally delayed for an hour and a half.  We have a nearly 51/2 hour flight ahead of us, which means if we are lucky we will land around 11 p.m.

Have you figured out where we are going yet?

Nice flight, uneventful, slept most of it.  I have no problem falling asleep on a plane, I guess because I fly so much, I can doze off before we even leave the ground.

It takes some time to get through Immigration and Customs here, I was really surprised in how many drivers and taxi’s were at the airport at that time of night looking for their pickup’s.  Thankfully someone is waiting for us as well.  And boy, am I glad I didn’t try to rent a car and drive here, I would be a nervous wreck trying to figure out how to get through the streets and find my destination.  It is so busy, if it wasn’t midnight you would think it was the middle of the day with all the traffic.  It is difficult to get a good look at the city at midnight.  What I found really surprising is how many people are out and about  in the streets.  Also, the people drive like crazies.  This is a BIG city, there are roughly 8.5 million people living in the city and it is a pretty dirty city, at the same time it is a very beautiful city, very different than what we are used to in the U.S.  I suppose that is because it is a much older City than any we have back home.

A lot of people I talked to, said “you have to be very careful when your there, it is very dangerous”, I have to tell you, I didn’t feel that way at all.  I thought the people, so far have been very nice and friendly.  It is getting late and I am ready to get to the Hotel and lay my head on a nice soft pillow.

But no, that is not to be.  To our surprise two of our traveling partners were waiting for us when we arrived at the hotel, now it’s 12:15 in the morning.  I must say I have not seen Judith so happy in a long time, she was very animated and excited, hugging us and just genuinely happy to see us.  It was great, she woke me right up.  They have been here nearly 24 hours already.

Now remember, I said that this is a big city, with 8.5 million people.  Apparently while our friends were walking around the city, they ran into the other 4 members of our group, who are staying in a different hotel, in a different part of the city, what are the odds you would run into someone you knew in just a few hours?   Well, now I can’t sleep, off to the bar for a cocktail then, tomorrow is a new day and this has been a very long day.  My head finally hit the pillow around 2 a.m.

Do you know where we are?
