Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep
Not again, oh wait, it’s 8:30, thats not so bad. The benefits of black out shades in the hotel, whoever came up with that one, it’s a good idea. Today is not going to be a particularly exciting day, however the good news is that I must have fallen into vacation mode pretty quickly since I slept in until 8:30. Which is like 4 hours later than normal. Thats a good sign, I really needed it.
We wake in Miami, but didn’t do anything particularly exciting, just relax and prepare for a long, boring day. Had some breakfast, packed up and left for the airport. Our flight is scheduled for early evening, 5:15, but was naturally delayed for an hour and a half. We have a nearly 51/2 hour flight ahead of us, which means if we are lucky we will land around 11 p.m.
Have you figured out where we are going yet?
Nice flight, uneventful, slept most of it. I have no problem falling asleep on a plane, I guess because I fly so much, I can doze off before we even leave the ground.
It takes some time to get through Immigration and Customs here, I was really surprised in how many drivers and taxi’s were at the airport at that time of night looking for their pickup’s. Thankfully someone is waiting for us as well. And boy, am I glad I didn’t try to rent a car and drive here, I would be a nervous wreck trying to figure out how to get through the streets and find my destination. It is so busy, if it wasn’t midnight you would think it was the middle of the day with all the traffic. It is difficult to get a good look at the city at midnight. What I found really surprising is how many people are out and about in the streets. Also, the people drive like crazies. This is a BIG city, there are roughly 8.5 million people living in the city and it is a pretty dirty city, at the same time it is a very beautiful city, very different than what we are used to in the U.S. I suppose that is because it is a much older City than any we have back home.
A lot of people I talked to, said “you have to be very careful when your there, it is very dangerous”, I have to tell you, I didn’t feel that way at all. I thought the people, so far have been very nice and friendly. It is getting late and I am ready to get to the Hotel and lay my head on a nice soft pillow.
But no, that is not to be. To our surprise two of our traveling partners were waiting for us when we arrived at the hotel, now it’s 12:15 in the morning. I must say I have not seen Judith so happy in a long time, she was very animated and excited, hugging us and just genuinely happy to see us. It was great, she woke me right up. They have been here nearly 24 hours already.
Now remember, I said that this is a big city, with 8.5 million people. Apparently while our friends were walking around the city, they ran into the other 4 members of our group, who are staying in a different hotel, in a different part of the city, what are the odds you would run into someone you knew in just a few hours? Well, now I can’t sleep, off to the bar for a cocktail then, tomorrow is a new day and this has been a very long day. My head finally hit the pillow around 2 a.m.
Do you know where we are?
